Thomas Hübl at the 2010 Annual Conference of the Integral Forum in Berlin

The Annual Conference of the Integral Forum was held from 18-20 June 2010 in the "Werkstatt der Kulturen" in Berlin. Its title can be translated as "Western Enlightenment and Eastern Enlightenment: Knowledge and Wisdom for a Sustainable World". The conference topics considered how an "integral embrace" could lead to a possible reconciliation of these two extremes, expressed as "becoming and being" or "relative and absolute". Speakers included the Zen teacher Diane Hamilton and the rabbi Marc Gafni, as well as Prof. Michael Zimmerman and the integral philosopher Ken Wilber (by telephone). Thomas Hübl was also invited again, as last year.

Lectures, workshops, plenary discussions and World Cafe sessions dealt with a range of topics that can all be grouped under the umbrella question: What would science be like if it was truly comprehensive, didn’t marginalise the areas of inner experience and social sciences, and even included spiritual experiences as sources of phenomenological data?

On Sunday, Thomas Hübl held a workshop which started with a guided meditation and showed participants how a contemporary mystic can grasp the scientific approach characteristic of our current era while at the same time adopting a radical practice of timeless wisdom. He asked: "How can we cultivate the core of mysticism whilst creating a sustainable awakened culture and at the same time letting evolution take its full course?" In addition, he ended the conference with a Toning.

There is a more comprehensive review of the conference by Dennis Wittrock here (in German).

Community Conference – The Power of Collective Intelligence

(in retrospect) Berlin, July 3 – 6, 2008

In Berlin 135 participants from 8 countries and a team of 18 people experienced together three days of 'Community Conference – the Power of Collective Intelligence', which Thomas Hübl, Kosha Joubert and François Wiesmann had initiated.

For many people the words 'wisdom' or 'intelligence' evoke an intellectual aptitude or endeavour. However, the term Collective Wisdom as we understand it, also comprises the emotional, intuitive and social intelligence, e.g. the way all parties concerned cooperate, their openness and honesty, their ability to perceive themselves as a part of a whole, their dedication to the whole. All this – and more – is part of the emerging space of collective wisdom.

We understand it as an adventure of intimate human cooperation and as a potential of humankind that shines from the future out to us.

Four aspects took centre stage during the conference:

  • Transcendence: A higher common focus supports us in experiencing synergy in groups
  • Interpersonal Clarity: Transparent communication leads to a higher level of awareness in our social systems
  • Economic Foundation: Manifestation of projects on solid financial ground
  • Service to the World: Supporting the evolutionary development of the whole

During these three days we were able to directly experience collective wisdom in our way of being and working together. The participants were invited to incorporate their contribution to the wisdom of the whole. Core presentations, meditations and the 'World Café'-method accompanied us in our joint process.
